Established in 1994, our gallery reflects the
creative spirit at Potters Croft and the work from this artistic
region.
Pottery,
glass, jewellery and woodwork are displayed in the well lit conservatory
that looks out over native gardens to the sea.
A selection of artists are exclusively featured. Sally Curry’s
ceramic sculptures with unique feminine beauty have become very
collectable, she has received national recognition. Sally has
been selling her work through Potters Croft for ten years, her
pieces sell well here because they are close to the environment
they were inspired by - land, sky and sea are consistent inspirations
that are clearly seen in her art.
Ben Richardson is one of Australia’s most accomplished
wood fired potters. His work has been shown in numerous international
exhibitions. Bens pots are for the cook, the flower arranger
and for the connoisseur. Ben also uses a gas kiln to fire a range
of smoothly glazed, Japanese influenced ceramics.
Paul Noordanus, master wood craftsman, supplies us with spectacular
pieces of Tasmanian timbers superbly hand carved into fruit bowls,
antipasto platters and practical food scoops. Blackwood, rare
white sassafrass, black-heart sassafrass, myrtle, Huon pine,
musk and eucalypt burls are beautifully shaped with figurative
handles and hand-etched grooves.
Eve Howard, also derives her ideas from this abundantly rich
seascape of birds and fishing boats. Eve’s sculptures are
evocative representations of daily life by the sea, inquisitive
pelicans and soaring albatross. Eve’s more recent sculptures
are broody hens and restful garden birds.
We stock a selection of Billie Powell’s smoke-fired decorative
pots. Her work is vibrantly coloured from ochre reds and oranges
produced by the flame to dusty the grey touches from the smoke
in her kiln.
Angus Douglas’ watercolour paintings capture the memories
of Potters Croft and the Tasman Peninsular experience, he lives
and works here…
We also feature Rynne Tanton’s crackle bowls, Sally Garth’s
abalone and antique china jewellery. Glass and sterling silver
jewellery, silk scarves a range of quality green, herbal and
black teas from The Art of Tea. Tammy Holmes produces the homemade
organic jams and marmalade that accommodation guests enjoy for
breakfast, these low sugar products are available in the gallery.
The wood-fired potter, Tim Holmes (also designer and builder
of Potters Croft), has a workshop and kiln beside the gallery.
