Fly fishing
Have you ever contemplated learning the art of fly
fishing, to fool a wild animal using skill and field
craft? Just minutes from Potters Croft you could
be a world away, immersed in the challenge of casting
to wild trout that cruise the edges of two spring-fed
lakes surrounded by untouched native bushland. Guests
staying at Potters Croft have exclusive access to
these registered private fisheries, the only onlookers
may be the resident pair of sea eagles who scan the
water searching for inattentive trout. To witness
an aerial attack by these majestic birds of prey
will remain with you forever.
It's a chance to learn about ecology, life below
the surface and the natural ingredients needed to create
a balanced fishery. Joe, the fisherman of the Potters
Croft family, provides a fully accredited, professional
guiding service with six years industry experience
at the world famous fly fishing destination London
Lakes Lodge in Tasmania's Central Highlands.
If you are curious about fly fishing he can give instruction
that will create the platform for a lifetime of enjoyment
in some of the most tranquil settings nature has to
offer. Why not prepare your catch beside the lake with
a picnic hamper and a glass of award winning wine from
the local vineyard. Stalking large brown trout as they
fossick in the shallow margins of these clear lakes
also offers a challenge to test the seasoned angler's
skill and stealth. Father and son packages are a speciality.
The chance to begin a pastime that will bring many
hours of enjoyment and strengthen the paternal bond.
Upon our return to Potters Croft Lodge Joe will demonstrate
how to tie flies using natural materials. This is a
skill that will provide the avenue for your creative
spirit. The satisfaction from tying your own flies
and catching fish on them is something that has to
be achieved to be appreciated.
Learn the art, feel the inspiration, prosper for
life…. All equipment, transport and refreshments
provided with one on one guiding and tuition. Guests
can choose to fish locally on Registered private waters
or embark on an adventure inland to reveal the secrets
of Tasmania's world famous wilderness lakes and tarns.
Inquire about a tailored
package to suit your appetite and time frame because
fly fishing is an art, an art well worth your learning.

Boat trips
Twenty minutes from our lodge we can board a safe and reliable
traditional fishing boat for a short voyage to see the tallest
sea cliffs in Australia and experience the unspoilt beauty
of the Tasman National Park. We will visit active seal colonies
and cruise beneath dolerite pillars that tower 300m above.
We are likely to see whales, dolphins, albatross, petrels,
penguins and other seabirds as they soar above an ocean alive
with fish. To be a spectator is to feel the power and awesome
grandeur of this dynamic natural playground.

Evening Beachwalks with wildlife interpretation
Potters Croft is fortunate to overlook Marion bay, a
spectacular ocean beach that extends north in a majestic
arc for 7 klms. The beach is rarely visited and is often
completely deserted along its entire length. With extensive
views up the east coast to Maria Island and the Mercury
Passage it is a place that inspires and drives the creative
spirit.
Find yourself fossicking among the seashells washed ashore
and wait quietly as the Fairy penguins begin their orderly
march up the bank to nestle in the dunes. Your guide can
point out all the seabirds and interpret the area from
Aboriginal days through European settlement to the present
day. History reveals land based whaling operations in the
early 19th century and mass whale strandings as large pods
travel past this point on their annual migrations to and
from Antarctica. At certain times of the year whales can
be seen cruising close to shore playing and nursing young.
After the last strands of golden light dissapear over
the horizon home is just 5 minutes away for a whee dram
or cup of fine leaf tea in the lounge. |

Temperate rainforest walk
Bushwalking and cycling day
trip – easy grade.. Fully guided and catered
Walk through the heart of Wielangtas’ remnant rainforest, then cycle down
the quiet farming roads of Bream Creek to an ocean beach.
This cycling/walking day trip combines two outstanding
yet little visited areas to our north. In Wielangta, steep
forested terrain rises from the oceans’ edge
into a realm of tall eucalypts. The intersecting valleys hold precious remnants
of cool temperate rainforest. Our path treads through the wet understorey ecosystem
along a peaceful, shady river. We pass towering gums and ancient stag trees.
Deeper still, we will encounter a rainforest world of Sassafrass and tree ferns.
From the heights of Wielangta, take in the spectacular
views from the seat of your bike as we descend Ragged Tier
through quiet Bream Creek. At the
end of
our journey we meet the breakers on an empty ocean beach, framed by bluffs,
islands and sky. |

Bream Creek vineyard tour
Bream Creek is a rural area
of great significance to our local community. The rich
volcanic soils and rolling green hills create fertile ingredients
for primary production including dairy, fat lambs, eucalyptus
seeds, French truffles and several grape varieties with
a fine reputation. The vineyard is perfectly situated and
prospers from a north facing aspect overlooking the Tasman
Sea. If you enjoy visiting vineyards to taste the wines
and absorb the atmosphere this package is suited to your
palette. A guided tour can provide a host of background
information that comes to life when you sit down to indulge
in a hamper picnic among the vines. Fine Tasmanian fare
in a stunning location.
